31 OctStarfleet Survival Guide 44/52

Starfleet Survival GuideThis next book has been sitting on my bookshelf for a while, but for some reason I never had the gumption to pick it up and read it (so many books, so little time!). But wanting to read it, I pushed it to the front of my TBR pile.

The Starfleet Survival Guide by David Mack is essentially exactly how it sounds. Written like a textbook, it contains extra information for a newbie to survive out in the Fleet. Important information, but not necessarily the stuff you’d use everyday. This isn’t your everyday survival guide though, this is for extreme situations – like having to make planetfall in open space, wearing only an EV suit.

Originally I was surprised by this book, since I was expecting something more tongue in cheek. I didn’t think it was going quite so much like a textbook. That said, it was definitely an interesting read. Most scenarios are drawn from the various Trek episodes, so I can assume it took the author a fair amount of Trek watching and research to put this book together. I like the fact that thought was even put into the design of the book in that it looks like a textbook.

This is definitely a great book for Star Trek fans, especially those who do written RPGs. Four stars!
