23 JunThe Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party 17/52

I LOVE Alexander McCall Smith.  I picked up a book in his Isabel Dalhousie series last year at the recommendation of a few customers and really enjoyed his style.  Since then I have read quite a few of his books.

The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party is the latest in his No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series, and the first one I have read in that particular series.  (I guess I am working my way backwards?)  I did see the BBC series based on these novels and I thought it would be something that I would like to read as well!

The series centers around Mma Ramotswe, who founded the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency located in Gabarone, Botswana.  She has been through her share of trouble in her life, but realizes she also has many things to be thankful for.  She hires an assistant and secretary, Mma Makutsi, and together they solve mysteries for their clients.

The series is not one of high-pace thrills.  Not at all.  Mma Ramotswe’s life is simple and the stories reflect a life that is gentle.  There is a lot of character development and I would definitely recommend reading them in order as they are mainly centered around the lives of the characters in them.

I will definitely be reading all of them!
