09 AprConfessions of a bookaholic 12/52

My confession is this;  I read Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella, and I kinda liked it!

I have been surprising myself lately.  When I put it in my pile I had this feeling that I was really breaking out of my genre.  I’ll admit, I was a bit embarrassed to put it on the white board at the bookstore under “what we’re reading now” and I know I must have shocked a few of my customers.

I didn’t think I would be able to identify with the protagonist, Rebecca Bloomwood.  She is impulsive and a bit shallow. So not me, right?  Rebecca is either always shopping or thinking about shopping.  She spends her money and gets into debt, starts receiving phone calls and letters from bill collectors.  Soon she’s not even opening her mail…

Wow, this is starting to hit home a bit.

It was entertaining.  I laughed more than a few times.  I also looked forward to my family settling in for the night so I could continue reading.  I liked it and I’m giving it 4/5 stars.  There.

Try breaking out of your usual style.  You may be pleasantly surprised.  I was.
