I’m not the world’s best thrift shopper, but when I am in a second-hand store, I head for the books.  My latest find, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.  It is sort of falling apart, but I have been wanting to read it for quite some time.

I have to say that I am disappointed because, I didn’t realize this until after I read it, but it is the modern abridged edition.  As a rule I like to read the complete version.  And I shall.  Eventually.

It’s not that I didn’t like the book, I did, but I expected more.

Little Women is really a good, wholesome story about four sisters who are growing up in America during the civil war.  They each struggle to overcome their character flaws with the guidance of their mother who is struggling herself as to raise her daughters without the help of her husband who is off at war.

I loved that I couldn’t predict what was going to happen.  Things didn’t turn out the way I expected them to in the end.  It was also refreshingly clean and full of morals.

I will definitely be adding it to my daughter’s bookshelf!
